A member of the Jan. 6 committee suggested new information may have played a role in the decision to postpone a hearing this week.

Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) told MSNBC’s Chris Hayes on Tuesday that the panel “had a lot of hearings compressed together and there were logistical problems” and stressed that the witnesses for the hearing set for Thursday were “immovable.”

Pressing the point, even though Lofgren said it was “not much of a story,” Hayes wanted to know if he should interpret the delay in the hearing that was set for Wednesday, after the committee held its second summer hearing Monday, as being the result of learning new information of witnesses backing out, among other possible developments.

“You know, we are constantly learning new things. But this is primarily logistical,” Lofgren said.

“Primarily?” Hayes asked, looking skeptical. The congresswoman replied with a smile, “I’ll just leave it at that.”

After announcing the postponement, the panel revealed Tuesday that its next hearings would take place Thursday, June 16, at 1 p.m. EST; Tuesday, June 21, at 1 p.m. EST; and Thursday, June 23, at 1 p.m. EST.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), also a member of the committee, said the scheduling change was made to “space out” the hearings. Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) signaled that the next hearing will focus on former President Donald Trump’s “relentless effort on Jan. 6th and in the days beforehand to pressure Vice President [Mike] Pence to refuse to count lawful electoral votes.”
