Former President Donald Trump endorsed a Republican running against Arizona House Speaker Rusty Bowers (R) in a state Senate race one week after Bowers testified before the Jan. 6 committee.
Former state Sen. David Farnsworth, who is set to face off against against Bowers in the primary in early August, “is an outstanding individual who has shown great courage in representing the wonderful people of Arizona,” Trump said in a statement released by his Save America PAC on Wednesday.

During the public hearing before the House Jan. 6 committee, Bowers recalled how Trump pressured him to “break his oath” and engage in a “circus” gambit to thwart the election over 2020 election fraud claims. Before the hearing, Trump chastised Bowers as a “RINO,” or a “Republican in name only,” and asserted that Bowers had professed his belief that the “election was rigged” to him directly — a claim Bowers flatly denied during the hearing.
Bowers, who is blocked from seeking another term in the state House due to term limits, is running for the state Senate in Arizona’s Legislative District 10. Stephanie Stahl Hamilton, a Democrat, currently holds that seat after being appointed by the Pima County Board of Supervisors to fill a vacancy and is on the ballot this year.

Trump said Farnsworth is a “true patriot” who “fought tirelessly on the 2020 Presidential Election Fraud Scandal.” He also touted Farnworth on such issues as securing the southern border, the Second Amendment, and taxes.
“David Farnsworth is going against a longtime political operative, or hack, Rusty Bowers, who has been an absolute disaster for Arizona and everything which Arizona Values represent,” Trump said. “Bowers fought Election Integrity harder than any Democrat, or even the RINO Commissioners of Maricopa County. In fact, the RINOs of the State, headed by Bowers and his group, were far worse than the Democrats because you never knew where they were coming from.”
